Curt Miller has stepped down as head coach of the Los Angeles Sparks following a disappointing season that marked the franchise’s fourth consecutive playoff miss and second under his leadership.
The team announced on Tuesday that both Miller and the organization had “mutually agreed to part ways.”
The Sparks, who have won three WNBA championships, will immediately begin the search for a new head coach.
This season, the Sparks struggled with a league-worst record of 8-32, facing numerous injuries, including to rookie Cameron Brink.
Over Miller’s two seasons at the helm, the team posted a 25-55 record. Despite the challenges, player Dearica Hamby achieved All-Star status and was named the AP Most Improved Player, while Rickea Jackson earned a spot on the AP All-Rookie Team.
Miller, who has a career record of 165-141 as a WNBA head coach, previously led the Connecticut Sun and was recognized as the WNBA Coach of the Year in 2017.
In a statement, Miller expressed gratitude for the opportunity to coach the Sparks and optimism about the team’s future success.
