Venezuela’s attorney general, Tarek Saab, announced on Tuesday that he has asked Interpol to issue an arrest warrant for Argentine President Javier Milei, escalating the ongoing diplomatic tensions between the two nations.
This development follows Argentina’s federal justice body requesting the arrest of Venezuela’s President Nicolás Maduro for alleged human rights violations, which stemmed from a petition by an Argentine advocacy group.
The diplomatic dispute traces back to the seizure of a Venezuelan airplane in Buenos Aires in June 2022.
In response to the incident, Venezuela has accused Milei of committing seven crimes, including robbery, further complicating relations between the two countries.
