In a remarkable display of commitment to education, Hon. Kevin Solomon Olaolu (KSO), Special Assistant on Students Affairs to the Ondo State Governor and President of the Solidarity ’99 Set of More High School, Afo, has donated scholarships and bursaries to exceptional students of his alma mater. This generous gesture was part of the activities marking the Afo Day/Yam Festival, held at Afo Community in Ose Local Government Area.
Addressing the gathering, Hon. KSO, who is also the pioneer president of the Solidarity ’99 Set, underscored the vital role of education in shaping the future. He expressed his gratitude to the association’s members, school authorities, parents, and students for their unwavering support, noting that, “Education is the best legacy.” He further highlighted the commitment of the Ondo State Governor, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, to the development of the students, emphasizing that the administration is dedicated to nurturing the next generation of leaders.
As part of his efforts to promote academic excellence, Hon. KSO announced the award of full scholarships and the provision of educational materials to the top-performing students of the school. The scholarship package, he explained, would cover all educational expenses, including tuition, books, uniforms, and other necessities, until the students complete their higher education. The beneficiaries of this generous initiative are Adebayo Precious (JSS1), Akinogbe Emmanuel (JSS2), Alabi Angela (JSS3), Suleiman Khadijat (SSS1), and Adeyeri Bukola (SSS2). Hon. KSO encouraged the students to remain focused and committed to their studies as he also gave the students token amount of One Hundred Thousand naira (#100,000) each.
In addition to the scholarships, Hon. KSO also donated a modern mower to the school. He explained that this initiative was aimed at eliminating the practice of students engaging in grass-cutting during school hours, which often distracts them from their academic pursuits. “The donation of this mower is intended to put an end to students cutting grass while classes are ongoing,” he said, reiterating his commitment to fostering a more conducive learning environment.
On behalf of the school, Mr. Adekoye John Sunday, the Registrar of More High School, expressed deep appreciation for the Solidarity ’99 Set and Hon. KSO’s benevolence. He remarked, “This gesture will not only motivate our students to strive for academic excellence but also inspire our staff to continue their dedication to imparting knowledge.” He further noted that the mower would significantly reduce distractions and physical strain on students, thereby enhancing their learning experience.
Representing the parents, Mr. Ogunyimido Samuel David conveyed his heartfelt thanks to Hon. KSO, the Solidarity ’99 Set, and the Ondo State Government for their continued support. He praised the appointment of Hon. KSO, a “son of the soil,” as the Special Assistant on Students Affairs, describing him as the ideal candidate to lead the charge for the welfare of Ondo State students. Mr. Ogunyimido also emphasized that the scholarships would greatly alleviate the financial burden on parents, urging them to ensure the scholarships are utilized effectively and as intended.
