A bipartisan congressional task force investigating the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump will visit Butler, Pennsylvania, on Monday.
This trip, occurring just over six weeks after the shooting, follows accusations from Sen. Ron Johnson, R-Wis., that the FBI and Secret Service have not been fully cooperative with the investigation. Led by Chairman Mike Kelly, R-Pa., and ranking member Rep. Jason Crow, D-Colo., the task force plans to examine the Butler Farm Showgrounds, where the attack took place.
The visit is deemed crucial for the task force to gather direct insights into the July 13 incident. Members will meet with local officials to address security lapses that allowed the attacker to approach the former president.
In response to these failures, at least five Secret Service agents, including the lead special agent at the Pittsburgh field office, have been placed on administrative leave. Rep. Clay Higgins, a task force member and Homeland Security and Oversight Committees member, recently provided a preview of the investigation’s direction.
A news conference is expected Monday afternoon to offer further details.
