When as a member of the House of Representatives, Late Chief Anthony Enahoro moved the first motion for Nigeria’s self-government July 31, 1953, he was 30-year-old.
Enahoro became the Editor of Nnamdi Azikiwe’s newspaper, the Southern Nigerian Defender, Ibadan, in 1944 at the age of 21.
At 22, he became the editor of Zik’s Comet Newspaper, Kano. In 1950, Enahoro was 27, when he became the Associate Editor of West African Pilot, Lagos.
Enahoro was 27 in 1950 when he founded the Mid-West Political Party with Arthur Prest. The Mid-West Party became part of Obafemi’s Awolowo’s Action Group in 1951. Awolowo himself was 42.
At 28, he was elected to the House of Representatives in 1951.
Between 21 and 30 years, Enahoro functioned as Editor of major newspapers in Nigeria, formed a political party and got elected into the House of Representatives.
Now, in the present day Nigeria, children whose brains develop faster than those of the people making policies for the country at present, will have to wait until they are 18 to be eligible to write WAEC, NECO and JAMB exams!
WAEC and NECO exams at 18.
JAMB exams at 19.
University admission at 20.
7 years spent for a 4 years course.
One year for NYSC.
That’s 28 Years!
I doubt if these people in the Education Ministry have sense at all walahi.
What is the problem with the previous policy of 16 years?
