The final night of the Democratic National Convention on Thursday attracted approximately 26.2 million TV viewers, slightly surpassing the Republican National Convention’s closing night, which had about 25.4 million viewers, according to Nielsen. The Democratic convention’s last night was broadcast across 15 networks and garnered roughly 820,000 more viewers than the GOP’s final night.
Vice President Kamala Harris’ acceptance speech from 10:31 p.m. to 11:11 p.m. ET drew an average of 28.9 million viewers, surpassing former President Donald Trump’s acceptance speech, which had about 28.4 million viewers from 10:45 to 11 p.m. ET. Throughout the convention, the DNC in Chicago attracted a larger audience compared to the RNC in Milwaukee.
Viewership for the DNC increased notably from past years, surpassing the 24.6 million who watched President Joe Biden’s speech at the convention four years ago.
Despite these numbers, overall TV viewership has been declining, with Thursday night’s audience falling short of the 30 million viewers seen during the final night of the 2016 Democratic convention.
