A tragic accident occurred in the Papalanto area of Ogun State on Friday when an Iveco truck, with registration number KJA 166 XJ, crushed a woman and her granddaughter to death. The truck reportedly attempted to overtake a tricycle, with registration number TRE 627 VP, carrying the victims.
Babatunde Akinbiyi, the spokesman for the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency, confirmed the incident, attributing the cause to the truck driver’s dangerous driving. According to an eyewitness, the truck was overtaking the tricycle while both vehicles were traveling toward Abeokuta. In the process, the truck dragged the tricycle along, causing it to fall in front of the truck, which then ran over it, instantly killing the grandmother and her granddaughter, the tricycle’s only occupants.
The truck driver fled the scene before he could be apprehended. The bodies of the deceased were handed over to their relatives, and the injured tricycle driver was taken to a hospital by a good Samaritan. Akinbiyi urged motorists to avoid reckless driving due to its severe consequences. This incident comes just 24 hours after another fatal truck accident in the Lafenwa area, which resulted in four deaths and two injuries.
