The kingmakers of Ngwa Ukwu Ancient kingdom, Isiala Ngwa North LGA, Abia state and other King makers under the aegis of ‘Ndi Eze Ala Oha Ngwa’ on Thursday, August 23, 2024 crowned Prince Clement Azubuike as Ezeukwu II; Ukwu 14th of Ngwa Ukwu Ancient Kingdom and successor to his late father, Sir Bernard O. Enweremadu.
The kingmakers, led by the Traditional Prime Minister, Nze Jonathan Nwaogu, Dr. Ikechukwu Madugba, Chief Sunday Nkoro, Nze Nnamdi Okey, Dr. Ezumezu Chiemela Onyenma, Chief Okechi Ekpendu and Chief Okechukwu Nwachukwu said they acted in accordance with the dictates of the community’s age-long established and accepted procedures for nomination of the traditional ruler as ordained by the tradition of the land known as ‘Ukwu Onyenweala’
Addressing newsmen immediately after the coronation, Nze Nwaogu declared that the coronation was done according to the instructions of the Traditional Priest of the ancient Kingdom, Shedrack Nwakila, Ezeala Ohangwa the 13th of Ngwaland who urged the community to abide by the tradition on the nomination of the Ezeukwu else, the people and principal actors will face the dire consequences of flouting the convention and tradition of crowning the traditional ruler.
Nze Nwaogu dismissed claims that a traditional ruler has earlier been recognised and given a staff of office by
the administration of the former governor of Abia State Dr Okezie Ikpeazu. He maintained that Eze Clement Azubuike Enweremadu is the rightful Ezeukwu II and Ukwu 14th of the ancient kingdom
The Traditional Prime Minister further argued that the former Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Rt Hon Christopher Enweremadu abused his office by unlawfully imposing on the kingdom an unpopular, unchosen and unacceptable person.
He also cited several correspondences to the then Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Rt Hon Enweremadu, urging him to do the right thing which were ignored while the Commissioner decided to ignore and jettison the acceptable channels of choosing the traditional ruler and imposed someone else on the entire community against their wishes and the dictates of the convention and tradition of the land.
The Traditional Prime Minister added that the community has petitioned the current Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, appealing that he ensures that the Panel of Inquiry into Appointment and Issuance of Staff of Office to Traditional Rulers by Past Government revisits their case in the spirit of impartiality and adherence to the principles of justice, fairness, equity and good conscience.
