The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) has been honoured with a Certificate of Appreciation by the Regional Universities Forum for Capacity Building in Agriculture (RUFORUM) at its 2nd Triennial Conference in Windhoek, Namibia.
The conference which was held from August 12-16, 2024, brought together over 1,500 delegates from around the world, and the Dean, College of Agricultural Management and Rural Development (COLAMRUD), Prof. Emmanuel Fakoya and the immediate past Dean, College of Plant Science and Crop Production (COLPLANT), Prof. Jonathan Atungwu, represented the University.
Speaking after the presentation of the certificate to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Fakoya stated that the conference was aimed at discussing topics crucial for Africa’s agricultural and economic transformation, with a focus on operationalising higher agricultural education and research ecosystems for innovation, industrialisation, as well as economic development.
He stated further that the Certificate of Appreciation was presented to FUNAAB in celebration of RUFORUM’s 20th anniversary, recognising the University’s invaluable contributions as a member of the RUFORUM network.
According to him, the award acknowledged FUNAAB’s pivotal role in shaping the future of agricultural education and development in Africa.
Meanwhile, RUFORUM is a network of 170 member universities across 40 countries in Africa, with a strong convening power that enables it to implement triennial conferences on a rotational basis.
