Donald Trump is set to hold his first outdoor rally since narrowly escaping an assassination attempt in Pennsylvania last month.
The event will take place at the North Carolina Aviation Museum & Hall of Fame, where security measures include a podium surrounded by bulletproof glass, storage containers stacked to block sight lines, and snipers positioned on nearby roofs. The backdrop features old aircraft and a large American flag suspended from cranes.
The rally is part of Trump’s strategic counterprogramming against the Democratic National Convention, currently underway in Chicago. Allies are advising him to focus on policy issues rather than personal attacks as he adjusts to campaigning against Vice President Kamala Harris, following President Joe Biden’s withdrawal from the race.
At the convention, both Barack and Michelle Obama sharply criticized Trump, with Michelle Obama addressing his comments on race and Barack Obama mocking his preoccupation with crowd sizes. Trump, accompanied by running mate Sen. JD Vance of Ohio, has been actively campaigning in battleground states, including a recent visit to Asheville, North Carolina.
Trump’s rally is drawing enthusiastic support from his base, with some attendees expressing confidence in his chances against Harris.
