“Since founding Mavin Records, Rema is the artist I’ve invested the most in, with over N2.5 billion spent to help him achieve global recognition.
Despite this, Rema feels he’s not being compensated fairly, disregarding the significant investment in his career.
Recently, he was paid over $3 million for a performance at an Indian billionaire’s wedding, and we allocated $1.3 million to him from that amount, yet he still believes he’s being underpaid. He’s even requested to terminate his contract with Mavin Records.
I’ve invested heavily in Rema, hoping to elevate him to the level of artists like Wizkid, Davido, Burna Boy, and Asake. But now, with the success of his music, he wants to cut ties with us. Moving forward, I’m reconsidering signing new artists, given the challenges I’ve faced with young talents.”
Don Jazzy, co-founder of Mavin Records, one of Africa’s leading record labels, disclosed that Rema is seeking to end his contract, feeling that his earnings are not enough.
