Calabar, Cross River State – Governor Otu of Cross River State has inaugurated the Cross River State Independent Electoral Commission (CROSIEC), tasking them to conduct credible and transparent local government elections in the state.
The inauguration follows the earlier confirmation of nominees by the State House of Assembly, including Mr. Ekong Edet Boco as Chairman, and members: Mrs. Rose Banku Atep, Mr. Joseph Adoga Ipuole , Eutendala Eno, Barr. Daniel Edet, Dr. Eyo Otu Eyo, and Mr. Jerry Adie Akabisong. Dr. Lawrence Edu was also sworn in as the Secretary of the Commission.
At the inauguration ceremony, Governor Otu emphasized the importance of a free and fair electoral process, urging the commission to ensure that the upcoming local government polls are conducted in accordance with the highest democratic standards.
Mr. Ekong Edet Boco, Chairman of CROSIEC, promised to conduct free and credible elections, saying “we will work tirelessly to ensure that the will of the people is respected”.
Mrs. Rose Banku Atep, Commissioner 1, assured the Governor that the commission would conduct a transparent and free election across the 18 Local Government Areas in the State. “We will uphold the principles of democracy and ensure that the voices of the people are heard,” she said.
The inauguration marks a significant step towards conducting peaceful and credible local government elections in Cross River State.
With the commission’s pledge to uphold transparency and fairness, citizens are optimistic about a successful electoral process.
