Taraba State Governor, Dr. Kefas Agbu, has said his administration has commenced the remodeling of livestock farming and production in order to improve local economy and strengthen the livestock value chain across the state.
His statement came just one month after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, announced the creation of the Federal Ministry of Livestock Development.
He spoke Thursday, at the commissioning of the Kefas/Aminu international Cattle market in Zing Local government area of the state.
Kefas who was represented by his deputy, Aminu Alkali, noted that livestock farming and production is a gold mine that the state is willing to explore to increase its Internally Generated Revenue, IGR.
He also mentioned that the state is working at strengthening the livestock value chain for the benefit of both farmers, merchants, end consumers and the state.
According to him, “our government is committed to supporting the growth of small and medium enterprises in the state.
“SMEs play a critical role in boosting the revenue generation of the society as well as reducing joblessness.
“This cattle market serves this purpose, and aligns with the economic growth plan of our administration.”
He further charged residents of the area to take ownership of the cattle market, and take advantage of its siting in their locality by engaging in legitimate businesses to cater for themselves.
Kefas also donated N10 million as his support for the provision of running water, livestock clinic among others in the cattle market.
The Acting Chairman of Kefas -Aminu Cattle Market, Ibrahim Monkin, who also spoke said the cattle market was a dream come true, especially for agriculturalists in the area.
He noted that the siting of the market in Zing, largely a crop farming community will encourage residents to venture into animal farming and production.
The state ALGON Chairman, Aminu Hassan and Chairman of Zing LGA, Davoro Gwandis, both said the cattle market would boost commercial activities in the area and also create employment opportunities.
