President Volodymyr Zelenskiy confirmed that Ukrainian pilots have begun flying F-16 fighter jets, marking a significant milestone after more than 29 months since Russia’s invasion.
Speaking at an undisclosed air base with F-16s in view, Zelenskiy expressed pride in the progress and highlighted that the jets, which Ukraine had long sought, are now operational.
While the exact number of F-16s and their immediate impact remain uncertain, the arrival represents a major advancement for Ukraine’s air force, which previously relied on outdated Soviet-era aircraft. Zelenskiy acknowledged the ongoing need for additional training and jets and urged allies to support expanded training programs.
The F-16s, known for their advanced capabilities, are expected to enhance Ukraine’s air defenses, though Russia has vowed to target them to mitigate their effectiveness.
