Ken Lemon, president of the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ), clarified that the delay of Wednesday’s interview with former President Trump was due to a fact-checking dispute rather than audio issues, as Trump claimed.
Lemon explained that Trump’s team objected to live fact-checking and threatened to cancel the interview if it proceeded. The delay, which lasted over an hour, involved resolving technical difficulties and negotiating with Trump’s team over fact-checking terms. Despite Trump’s claims of audio problems, Lemon emphasized that the main issue was Trump’s reluctance to be fact-checked.
The interview, which included tense moments with ABC’s Rachel Scott, eventually took place with Trump appearing on stage after the delay. Trump’s campaign spokesperson criticized the NABJ for not being truthful about the delay, while Lemon stood by the decision to uphold fact-checking standards.
