North Carolina GOP gubernatorial candidate Mark Robinson has shifted his stance on abortion, revealing his wife’s past abortion in a new ad. In the advertisement, Robinson, currently the state’s lieutenant governor, reflects on the “pain” of the decision, stating it is something that “stays with me forever.”
He now supports the state’s 12-week abortion law, which includes exceptions for the life of the mother, rape, or incest, claiming it provides “common sense” protections.
This marks a notable change from Robinson’s previous strong anti-abortion rhetoric, where he called abortion “murder” and compared anti-abortion efforts to the fight against slavery.
His opponent, Attorney General Josh Stein, has criticized Robinson for misleading voters about his true beliefs on abortion. The gubernatorial race remains tight, with Stein currently leading Robinson by a narrow margin.
