The National Park Service (NPS) will waive entrance fees at over 400 sites on Sunday to commemorate the fourth anniversary of the Great American Outdoors Act (GAOA). This law passed in 2020, provided $6 billion for the maintenance and repair of national parks.
The free admission day applies to parks that typically charge fees, such as Denali, Death Valley, Everglades, Yellowstone, and Arches.
GAOA funds are being used to refurbish roads, improve accessibility, and preserve historic buildings in parks across the country, enhancing visitor experiences.
Only two more free admission days remain in 2024: Sept. 28 (National Public Lands Day) and Nov. 11 (Veterans Day).
