Hurricane and tropical storm watches have been issued for parts of Florida as a storm system currently over Cuba is expected to intensify into Tropical Storm Debby by late Saturday.
Forecasts indicate that Debby could reach near-hurricane strength before making landfall in Florida’s Big Bend region late Sunday or early Monday.
The storm is anticipated to bring hazardous rainfall, strong winds, and a life-threatening storm surge to the Gulf Coast and Tampa Bay areas. Southern Florida, the Florida Keys, and the Bahamas are already experiencing gusty winds and thunderstorms.
Debby could also impact Georgia and the Carolinas next week. Residents are advised to prepare for significant rain and potential flooding.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has urged residents to follow guidance from local emergency officials.
