MOSSAD: THE PUNISHING HAND OF ZION
“Mossad recruits join a glorious cohort of warriors and scouts who serve in complete secrecy, driven by dedication and loyalty to their people and their country. The main strength of the Mossad is the people who serve in its ranks and are its stronghold, its driving force. They are at the forefront of operational tasks. Employees in the Mossad require complete dedication, valor and loyalty to their country. The people of the Mossad are aware of their mission and remain faithful to it to the end. “
In general, the Mossad does not hesitate to use the methods of the enemy. For example, in Malta, Israeli intelligence officers once killed the leader of the Jihad terrorist organization Fathi Skakaki. In Lebanon, Mustafa Darani, the spiritual mastermind of the “Resistance Group of Believers”, was kidnapped and taken to Israel. A similar fate befell Hezbollah leader Javad Kaspi and Sheikh Karim Obeid. In a number of European cities, the deputy chairman of the Palestine Liberation Organization Kamal Hussein, the head of the Fatah faction Shatoun Muraah, the head of the information service of the PLO Abu Sharar, and other prominent figures of the PLO and a number of Islamic terrorist organizations were liquidated.
Anti-terrorist activity has intensified since the arrival of the retired paratrooper general Meir Dagan in 2002 as the current chief of the Mossad. During the years of his military service, he specialized in the fight against terror. According to some reports, in recent years, Mossad has physically eliminated a number of prominent functionaries of Islamic terrorist organizations based in Lebanon, Gaza, Syria and Iran.
The methodology for conducting such operations can be illustrated by the example of the elimination of the head of the military wing of the Palestinian terrorists Abu Jihad in 1988 in Tunisia.
Previously, the Mossad, through its agents in Tunisia and with the help of technical means, collected all possible information about the terrain, the locations of the police and military forces of Tunisians and Palestinians. All telephone conversations of Abu Jihad and his entourage were also tapped. And just before the operation, special forces fighters held a dress rehearsal at a specially built villa, an exact copy of Abu Jihad’s residence.
Several Mossad special agents arrived in Tunisia under the guise of tourists, who were supposed to meet the assault group on the coast and ensure its delivery to the target. The Israeli Air Force and Navy were involved in the action: a squadron of four corvettes secretly approached the coast, and two Boeing-707s were constantly patrolling the Mediterranean Sea. The planes carried electronic equipment designed to suppress communications between the Tunisian military police forces and the Palestinians.
The special forces who landed on the beach blocked the approaches to the villa of Abu Jihad from the adjacent streets and silently entered the house. After eliminating Abu Jihad, they grabbed classified documents and safely left the area of the operation. The only evidence of the presence of Israeli special forces in Tunisia was dozens of terrorist bodies marked with the “trademark” of Mossad operatives with a control shot in the right eye.
Strength is in people
Service in the Mossad has been and remains one of the most prestigious in Israel. Many members of the state’s political elite began their careers as agents of the Mossad. For example, the current Israeli Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni served in the Mossad for 4 years.
Today, in the ranks of the foreign intelligence service, you can meet representatives of various strata of Israeli society. This is especially evident if you look at the biographies of the leaders of the Mossad. For example, the previous intelligence chief Ephraim Halevi was born in Great Britain into an aristocratic family – he is the nephew of the outstanding British philosopher and president of the British Academy Sir Isaiah Berlin. Khalevi was engaged in journalism, was the ambassador of Israel to the European Community. In the Mossad, he served for 28 years, consistently passing all the career steps of a professional intelligence officer.
The current head of the Mossad, Meir Dagan, was born in Novosibirsk. In Israel, he made a brilliant military career, rising to the rank of major general. Starting his service in the landing forces, he took part in all the wars waged by Israel. For courage and heroism, Dagan was awarded the highest military awards.
The Mossad unites in its ranks people who are absolutely different from each other.
But they all serve the same purpose – to protect the interests of their state.
