A pro-democracy group, Conscience of Democracy in Nigeria, has accused the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) of causing Nigeria’s current economic crisis through mismanagement and corruption during its 16-year rule. Adamu Kabir Matazu, the group’s leader, told journalists in Abuja on Sunday that the PDP’s actions during their tenure laid the groundwork for the nation’s economic woes.
Matazu criticized the PDP’s governance in the 13 states it controls, arguing there has been no significant improvement and the party has failed to showcase any differences in governance. He also condemned the PDP’s Acting National Chairman, Ambassador Iliya Umar Damagum, for supporting a planned nationwide protest against President Bola Tinubu’s government, describing it as an attempt to destabilize Nigeria.
The group warned that the protest could lead to violence and urged Nigerians to reject it. They called on the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) and the Department of State Services (DSS) to investigate and take appropriate action.
Matazu emphasized that although Tinubu’s administration is currently in power, the PDP’s 16-year rule is responsible for the ongoing economic crisis. He urged the PDP to acknowledge their role in the current situation and criticized their perpetuation of corrupt practices.
