A top politician and a former Commissioner for Higher Education in Delta State, Joan Mrapkpor, popularly known as ‘Ada Anioma’, has been abducted by unknown persons.
Mrapkpor, who is a former member of the Federal House of Representatives, representing Aniocha/ Oshimili Federal Constituency, was abducted inside her church during church service.
It was gathered the incident occurred at the hours of 4:30pm occurred at her church premises; King Jesus and I Ministries on 30, July 2024.
It was learnt that a policeman attached to her and her Aide ,were shot dead by the gunmen while trying to resist the kidnappers after which the armed men whisked their victim into their vehicle.
An eyewitness said: “there was commotion right inside her church close to police headquarters, DBS Road.
It was revealed that the gunmen numbered over five, stormed the premises of the church in a black van after which she heard several gunshots.
The former commissioner was whisked away in her SUV vehicle amidst heavy shooting.
Meanwhile, the Delta State Police Command’s spokesman, SP Bright Edafe, has confirmed the abduction and casualty involved.
Speaking on the incident, the Police Spokesman said the command lost one of its officers in the attack.
SP Edafe added that the Police Command was on the trail of the abductors and would give more details of the incident in due course.
