The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested 32-year-old Ubaida Aliyu for carrying 573 rounds of 7.60 live ammunition on the Kaduna-Zaria highway. Aliyu was apprehended during a routine stop-and-search operation by NDLEA operatives on July 27. She reportedly admitted that the ammunition was intended for bandits in Sokoto.
NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi confirmed that the ammunition was intercepted during a search and that Aliyu confessed her intent to deliver it to bandits. This arrest is part of the NDLEAβs ongoing efforts to combat illegal activities and disrupt the supply of arms to criminal groups.
The NDLEA is collaborating with other security agencies to tackle banditry and enhance public safety across Nigeria. This arrest highlights the crucial role of such coordinated efforts in undermining criminal networks. Investigations are ongoing to trace the ammunitionβs source and identify any potential accomplices. The public is encouraged to report any suspicious activities to the authorities.
