The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) issued a stern warning to corps members on Saturday, advising them against participating in the upcoming nationwide protest dubbed #EndBadGovernance, set for August 1-10. The protest, which has stirred significant discussion among Nigerians, especially the youth, aims to address anti-inflation concerns and echoes the 2020 anti-police brutality protests that led to fatalities, arson, and destruction.
NYSC Lagos Coordinator, Yetunde Baderinwa, emphasized the need for corps members to promote national unity. In a statement, Baderinwa reminded them of the NYSC’s strict policy prohibiting participation in protests, stressing that violators would face serious disciplinary actions in line with NYSC regulations.
The statement highlighted the NYSC’s mission to foster national unity and cohesion. It urged corps members to adhere to principles of harmony, noting that participation in any protest, whether physical or online, contradicts the NYSC’s goals. As the protest date nears, the NYSC’s directive highlights the tension between civic activism and institutional regulations aimed at maintaining order and unity.
