Abia State Governor, Alex Otti has approved the conduct of the year 2022 and 2023 Promotion/ Conversion/ Confirmation exercise in the state’s civil service.
The exercise is coming three weeks after the state government cancelled the Command Promotions and other elevation exercises which were carried out by the immediate past administration which Otti’s government alleged did not follow due process.
But in a public service announcement issued by the Abia State Civil Service Commission this week, the Ministries, Departments, Agencies and MDAs, were requested to forward the original advance copy of their briefs to the civil service commission on or before the 2nd of August, 2024, as contained in the 2022/2023 promotion guidelines.
The announcement copy which was dated July 25, 2024, and signed by the Permanent Secretary, Dim Ijeoma Clara, for the Chairman of the Abia State Civil Service Commission, advised that the brief for years 2022 and 2023 should be prepared separately for ease of reference.
The promotion information, a copy which was sighted by MAGIC FM, was made available to Journalists, said “the Commission will not entertain any late or on-the-spot submission of briefs during the DSB meetings”.
The Abia State Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Okoro Ogbonnaya and Trade Union Congress, TUC, Chairman, Ihechi Enogwe had on July 14, told Journalists that the issues of cancellation of command promotions and the need to carry out due promotions in the state’s civil service formed part of the 2 days dialogue between the state government and the organized labour.
” The government committed to commence regular promotion of all civil servants due for promotion as soon as possible “, Abia NLC Chairman, Okoro Ogbonnaya had said following the government-labour dialogue.
