While I would not like to be joined in whatever the author seeks to achieve, I am interested in reminding him something of note to be included in his piece to be a complete must-read for all.
President Olusegun Obasanjo was elected in 1999, and he graciously appointed 2 Igbomina leaders as ministers. They were Princess Olufunke Adedoyin of blessed memory and Chief Cornelius Adebayo. A scion of the Sarakis opposed the nomination of the former on the floor of the senate. Her argument was that the duo were from the same senatorial district.
Senator Makanjuola Ajadi was in the senate. Ajadi roared “if two siblings from the same womb could be a senator and the other a governor. What stops people whose towns were 30kms apart?” Princess eventually made it.
Now, Igbomina leaders were billed to see President Obasanjo on a thank you visit. They had informed their first class Obas to be part of the delegation. A directive came that no Oba must step out of Kwara, and it came to pass. Who was in the saddle then? Who ordered the Obas to stay put in Kwara? If any politician has manipulated traditional institutions so well in our state, give it to those the author seeks to exonerate.
