The Concerned Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) Awareness Forum, a rights group, has urged President Bola Tinubu not to reinstate Dr. Beta Edu, the former Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation. The group argued that reappointing Dr. Edu, who was dismissed due to high-profile corruption cases amounting to billions of naira, nepotism, and biased appointments within the Ministry, would damage Nigeria’s long-standing fight against corruption.
The group’s chairman, Mallam Auwal Dalori, issued a statement on Monday in Abuja, responding to a reportedly sponsored newspaper article intended to garner public sympathy for Dr. Edu. Dalori emphasized that Edu’s tenure as minister was unremarkable and cautioned her against using blackmail tactics to pressure the Federal Government into reinstating her.
The group maintained that any attempt to reconsider her for reinstatement or any other appointment would undermine the integrity of the government’s anti-corruption efforts.
