Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), has disclosed that over one million students were admitted illegally by various tertiary institutions across the country.
Oloyede made this revelation on Thursday in Abuja during the policy meeting for the 2023/2024 admissions. The meeting, which includes leaders from tertiary institutions and other stakeholders, is intended to guide the admissions process for the upcoming academic year.
The JAMB Registrar noted that the board has managed to regularize the admissions of approximately 600 of these students. He explained that many of the students who were admitted illegally lack the essential qualifications required for their chosen courses.
“More than one million students were admitted without proper authorization,” Oloyede stated. “We have managed to register about 600 of them, as many do not meet the necessary qualifications for their programs.”
