Full 50kgs bag of maize bran
15 Kgs crashed maize grain
7 kgs crashed roasted soya bean
Full 5 liters bucket of fish meal
Full 5 liters bucket of smoothly crashed alfalfa grass. If you dnt have alfalfa grass get pumpkin leaves or sugar beans leaves or cassava leaves (follow the post at our fb page #ocsradicalfarmers on how to make pumpkin leaves as animal feed)
3kgs fine wood ashes
300 grams baker’s yeast (same yeast we use when making fat cakes or bread)
3kgs fine salts.
Mix all these ingredient thoroughly. Dnt doubt; that is exactly what your weaners needs to grow healthy and fast. Give each piglets half or 1 kg of feed. You can wet the feed when giving to the piglets
You can ask why am not adding lime here.
Yes instead of lime at our farm when making piglets feed we just add wood ash.
Because wood ash contains about 25 percent calcium carbonate. Piglet needs just 1% of calcium carbonate for born development, metabolic process and nerve function. It also supports functions such as blood clotting. Low calcium in the body can stunt pig growth and cause diseases such as rickets. In addition to calcium and phosphorous, your pigs need small amounts of other minerals, such as iron, zinc, copper and manganese. These minerals are usually added to pig diets as a mineral premix. So ashes contains all of these.
If you have egg shells I strongly encourage you to includes them when making this weaners feed. Just put 1% into it
WHY SALTS IN PIGLETS FEED?
Salt is a source of sodium for pigs. It is very important to young pigs because they need sodium to grow. Grains are low in sodium but you only need 0.25% salt in young pig diets.
Older pigs need around 0.3–0.5% salt in their diet. You may want to add more salt than the recommended limit of 0.3% because it helps combat discharging sow syndrome and urinary tract infections. Salt makes sows thirsty so they drink more water, which helps them urinate
Weaners needs more vitamin E (for immune systems) . Alfalfa grass, moringa leaves or the greeny leaves I mentioned Contains enough vitamins for the health growth of your animal.
