Dr. Tonye Okio, the Commissioner representing Bayelsa in the Federal Character Commission in Abuja, has dismissed calls by the Movement for the Survival of the Ogoni People (MOSOP) for the removal of Dr. Samuel Ogbuku as the Managing Director/CEO of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).
MOSOP, had in a statement on Friday, issued by its spokesperson, Imeabe Oscar, based its removal calls on Dr. Samuel Ogbuku for his alleged exclusion of Ogoni people from the recently held Niger Delta Summit in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
Speaking to newsmen about the situation at the Bayelsa International Airport on his arrival, Dr. Okio emphasized that the calls for Dr. Ogbuku’s removal are unfounded and baseless, as the exclusion of MOSOP from the summit could have been an honest oversight, especially since other Ogoni individuals did attend the event.
He also maintained the calls for Dr. Ogbuku’s removal are counter-productive and contradict the Federal Character Principles, which dictate that each state should have its turn occupying the position of MD/CEO as Bayelsa State has not yet completed its turn.
Dr. Okio commended Dr. Samuel Ogbuku’s efforts in placing communities evenly on the right trajectory of growth and development and dismissed attempts to pull Dr. Ogbuku down, labeling them as “dead on arrival.
The Commissioner representing Bayelsa in the Federal Character Commission, Dr. Tonye Okio, urged the Movement for the Survival of the Ogoni People (MOSOP) to direct their grievances against the Managing Director/CEO of the NDDC, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, through the appropriate channels.
He assured that Dr. Ogbuku is receptive and willing to address their concerns, and encouraged MOSOP to take advantage of his accommodating stance to resolve their issues peacefully.
