The United States, US, Federal Bureau of Investigation, FBI, has said itβs yet to establish the motive behind the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump.
FBI Special Agent in Charge of Pittsburgh field office, Kevin Rojek, said no specific threat was received ahead of the shooting.
Addressing a press conference, Rojek said: βTonight we had what weβre calling an assassination attempt on our former president, Donald Trump.
βWe do not currently have an identified motive.β
The FBI was not prepared to release the identity of the shooter, who died at the scene.
Asked if law enforcement did not know the shooter was on the roof until he began firing, Rojek responded, βthat is our assessment at this time.
βIt is surprisingβ that the shooter was able to get off as many rounds as were fired.
He added that βall the details of that will come out in a later investigation.β
An assassination attempt was carried out on Trump during his election campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania on Saturday.
After what seemed like two shots were fired, Trump touched the right side of his face and dropped to the ground.
Secret Service agents threw themselves on him to protect him.
But, the Secret Service spokesperson, Anthony Guglielmi, said the shooter shot multiple times toward the stage from an elevated position outside of the rally venue.
