The Honorable Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, Dr. Helen Isamoh-Egodo was invited as a special guest to the Commissioning Ceremony of a Solar Powered Industrial Borehole in Alesi community of Ikom LGA.
The Honorable Commissioner was invited by the executor of the project, Major General Hilary Nzan and the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General, T. A. Lagbaja who commissioned the project.
Speaking at the occasion, the project executor, Major General Nzan said that the Solar Powered Industrial Borehole is one of the projects that the Nigerian Army has been carrying out in different Nigerian communities in its effort to shore up relationship with ordinary citizens and to assure Nigerians of the goodwill of the Nigerian Army towards Nigerians.
He expressed his appreciation to the Chief of Army Staff for approving the project and being magnanimous enough to help alleviate the burden of the community in getting water for their households.
He expressed the hope that community members would do their best to take care of the borehole and to use it safely for the purpose for which it is constructed.
The Chief of Army Staff, represented at the event by Major General H. T. Dada, the Major General commanding 82 Division of the Nigerian Army, commended Major General Hilary Nzan for his success in executing the project. He assured the community that the Nigerian army would continue to foster good citizenship throughout the country.
He also thanked the Cross River State Governor, Prince Bassey Otu, who despite his busy schedule was kind enough to send his representative to the ceremony.
In her statement at the event, Commissioner Helen Isamoh-Egodo commended Major General Hilary Nzan for demonstrating an enviable dedication to a project that will alleviate much hardship for ordinary citizens of our community.
The Honorable Commissioner said:
“There is no measure that can adequately be assigned to a project such as this because human well-being is of foremost importance in everything we strive for.
As a result this Solar Powered Industrial Borehole is set to be the standard for other communities where the livelihood of citizens is at stake.
As the Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, I find this monumental achievement by Major General Nzan to be one that will contribute to alleviating the hardship faced by the citizens of this community.”
The Honorable Commissioner, Dr. Helen Isamoh-Egodo was presented with a souvenir of the event by Major General Hilary Nzan. Major General Nzan thanked the Honorable Commissioner for being kind enough to accept the invitation extended to her by the Nigerian Army.
The event featured several traditional dances by members of the Aliso community who came out in large numbers to express their gratitude to their son, Major General Nzan and to the Nigerian Army.
