The Abia State House of Assembly during its plenary session on Wednesday Passed into law HAB15: The Abia State Security Trust Fund Bill, 2024 which underwent its 3rd reading on the floor of the house and subsequently passed into law.
The Speaker, Rt. Hon.Emmanuel Emeruwa while passing the bill into law stated that the law would be cited as The Abia State Security Trust Fund Law 2024 and will be deemed to have come into effect from July 10, 2024 when assented to by the Governor.
The speaker also announced the setting up of a Special Committee which comprises of all the members of the various Committee Chairmen of the 8th Abia Assembly for the purpose of reviewing the activities of all the Ministries, Agencies, and Parastatals in the state in the last one year.
The Special Committee according to the Speaker will be Chaired by the Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Augustine Meregini Okezie and the House Committee on Information, media and publicity and member representing Umuahia East State Constituency.
A motion for the state government to build a Modern Market Facility In Umuahia And To Relocate Isigate Market And All The Markets at the adjourning streets as contained in the order of the day and as sponsored by Hon. Anthony Chinasa Abiola representing Umuahia Central state constituency was also presented on the floor of the house.
Hon. Abiola in his prayers which include that the state government as a matter of economic importance be urged to expedite actions on building the new modern market facility sited at Afara-Ukwu Ibeku in Umuahia in order to create a conducive business environment for traders in Umuahia and to boost the revenue of the State.
He also prayed that the State Ministry of Trade, Commerce and Industry be urged to collaborate with all the stakeholders in the state to achieve the project which the house unanimously supported the prayers to the motion that drew positive contributions from other members.
In another, development the House received a motion, HAM 26 sponsored by the Deputy Speaker Rt. Hon. Augustine Meregini on the Need for the Release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu In Order To Foster Lasting Peace In The South East Of Nigeria.
That the Abia State House of Assembly do join the South East Governors’ Forum, Distinguished Members of the National Assembly from the South East Extraction, Ohanaeze Ndi Igbo and other well meaning Nigerians to give solidarity support towards the release of Nnamdi Kanu.
Meregini also prayed the House to lend it’s unalloyed support to the resolution reached at the meeting of the Stakeholders/South East Governors’ Forum held at Enugu on the 2nd of July, 2024, adding that the House do also support the visit of the Distinguished Senators of the South East extraction to the Honorable Attorney General of the Federation on this matter.
