1. Find the Tyre Identification- Number (TIN) Look for the TIN on the sidewall of the tyre. It’s a series of numbers and letters starting with “DOT” (Department of Transportation).
2. Check the last four digits-
The last four digits of the TIN represent the week and year of manufacture. For example, “3223” means the tyre was manufactured in the 32nd week of 2023.
3. Determine the expiry date- Most tyres expire six years after the date of manufacture. Using the example above, the expiry date would be 2024 (2023 + 6 years).
Alternatively, you can also look for the “DOT” symbol on the tyre, followed by a series of numbers and letters. The last three digits of this code represent the day, month, and year of manufacture.
For example:
– “DOT 0204” means the tyre was manufactured on February 2004.
– “DOT 365/23” means the tyre was manufactured on December 31, 2023.
Always check the tire’s condition and tread depth, even if it’s within the expiry date. Safe driving!
