Ekiti State Government is set to commence a comprehensive Free Surgical Mission that will provide essential surgical care to Ekiti State residents.
The Mission’s primary objectives include: enhancing healthcare access for underserved communities, providing free surgical services to financially challenged residents, improving health outcomes for all, and addressing surgical conditions that can significantly impact quality of life and overall health. Other objectives of the Mission include reducing healthcare disparities and ensuring equitable healthcare delivery across all socioeconomic groups within the state.
According to a statement by the Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Dr Oyebanji Filani, the Free Surgical Mission will be conducted across various healthcare facilities in the state, catering to a wide range of surgical needs, including caesarian sections, hernia repairs, appendectomies, cataract surgeries, lump removals, fibroid removals, and hydrocele repairs (ìpá).
The commissioner also revealed that enrollment of patients needing surgical intervention is now ongoing at primary healthcare facilities in all wards across the state. Patients are required to provide their NIN and a passport photograph during enrollment.
The surgeries will be performed at selected hospitals with the necessary facilities and personnel to ensure safe and effective outcomes. Post-surgical follow-up and rehabilitation services will also be provided to ensure full recovery and promptly address any complications that may arise.
Dr Filani lauded Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s efforts to make the Free Surgical Mission a reality and he reaffirmed the Biodun Oyebanji-led administration’s dedication to fostering a healthier and more resilient Ekiti State by building a more robust healthcare system and eliminating financial barriers to essential surgical care.
