….. with Major Awareness Walk In Akure
Today, the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Joint Campus Committee (JCC) Ondo Chapter, led by the NANS JCC Ondo Chairman, Comrade Oluwarotimi Tobiloba Joshua (JOSH), and Hon. Kevin Solomon Olaolu (KSO), the Senior Special Assistant to the Ondo State Governor on Students’ Affairs, organized a significant awareness campaign in Akure, Ondo State, in observance of the United Nations International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.
The event commenced with a mobilization of stakeholders including officials from the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Ondo State Command under Commander Mumuni Kayode Raji, representatives from the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), secondary school students, and NANS Ondo JCC stakeholders. Together, they embarked on a purposeful walk across major roads in Akure, advocating for the eradication of drug abuse and illicit trafficking among Nigerian students and the broader community.
The Chairman, NANS JCC Ondo, Comrade Oluwarotimi Tobiloba Joshua emphasized the urgent need for community-wide action to address the growing threat of substance misuse among youth. He stressed the role of education and community engagement in fostering a drug-free environment conducive to academic success and personal development.
“Our march today symbolizes our unwavering commitment to combatting drug abuse and illicit trafficking. Through education and awareness, we empower our youth to make informed choices and resist the allure of harmful substances,” Chairman JOSH remarked.
Hon. Kevin Solomon Olaolu, KSO, reiterated the Ondo State government’s steadfast support for initiatives promoting a healthy and drug-free lifestyle among students. He commended the proactive efforts of student leaders and law enforcement agencies in confronting substance abuse, highlighting the importance of collaborative partnerships in achieving sustainable solutions.
“The state government stands firmly against drug abuse, and today’s event underscores our collective determination to collaborate with stakeholders to tackle this critical issue,” Hon. Olaolu affirmed.
Commander Mumuni Kayode Raji of NDLEA Ondo State Command echoed the sentiments, underscoring the detrimental effects of drug abuse on health and society. He expressed gratitude for the community’s robust participation in the awareness walk, acknowledging it as a pivotal step towards creating awareness and promoting responsible behavior among students.
The awareness walk concluded with a call to action for continued vigilance and coordinated efforts from government agencies, educational institutions, and civil society organizations to protect Nigerian youth from the harmful effects of substance abuse.
As NANS JCC Ondo continues its advocacy for a drug-free society, Comrade Oluwarotimi Tobiloba Joshua and Hon. Kevin Solomon Olaolu, KSO, remain steadfast in their commitment to empowering students and fostering a safe environment where every individual can thrive.
