He started acting in 1964 with the group Young Concert Party, led by Ojo Ladipo. The group later renamed Awada Kerikeri Theatre Group. He featured in the first Yoruba film, Ajani Ogun, in 1978. Salami produced his first movie, Ogun Ajaye, in 1985. He directed and produced numerous Yoruba films, including Oduduwa, Oduduwa 2, Elebute, Atanpako meta, and The New Project/Feature Film. He has appeared in over 70 films.
