Dry season is one of the perfect time to grow crops; vegetables like watermelon,cucumber, pumpkin (ugu) and lot’s more.
Many farmer’s don’t have access to water source which means they have to wait for raining season while those that have access to water source utilize the opportunity to hit the market.
During dry season most major market’s have huge demands and low supply coupled with it’s festive period.
Every intend dry season farmer should take note of this;
1. Make sure you have source of water for irrigation be it stream,river,well,borehole etc. Pass series of investigation before siting your farm near streams or river some drys up during peak the of dry season.
2. The type of crop you are growing determines the type of irrigation kits/system you are to use. NOTE!
3. Avoid rain gun or spray tube for crops like Cucumber, watermelon etc. Drip irrigation is good and advisable.
4. Try to do your customers well during this season of low supply and huge demands. Supply to them,give discounts if necessary they are the only to come to your rescue during GLUT.
5. Plant the size of farm you can manage efficiently is not by planting hectares of land is by management. Dry season farming is not funny o.
