As the Deputy Senate President of the National Association of University Students (NAUS), we are compelled to express our grave concern and resolute condemnation of the recent inhumane actions perpetrated by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) against students and youths in Akure.
The recent incidents of human rights violations and indiscriminate bursting into student residences and youth hubs by EFCC operatives are not only alarming but also completely unacceptable. These actions undermine the fundamental rights and dignity of individuals, causing fear and trauma within our communities.
As young people, we believe in the rule of law and due process. However, the manner in which EFCC operations have been conducted in Akure is a flagrant disregard for these principles. It is essential to emphasize that combating corruption should never come at the expense of trampling on the rights of innocent citizens, particularly students and youths who are the future of our nation.
We call on the EFCC to immediately cease these unjust practices and adhere strictly to the rule of law in the discharge of its duties. Furthermore, we urge the relevant authorities to investigate these incidents thoroughly and hold those responsible for the violations accountable for their actions.
In solidarity with the affected students and youths in Akure, NAUS stands firm against any form of oppression and injustice. We will continue to advocate for the protection of human rights and the promotion of justice for all.
Sincerely,
Comr. Alade Abayomi Oldman
National Deputy Senate President
National Association of University Students (NAUS)
