Man City ‘five-year ban’ and stripped of titles – Arsenal & Liverpool fans react
Man City have launched legal action against the Premier League, sparking a civil war among the member clubs, leaving Arsenal and Liverpool fans incensed.
Reports revealed City have described the financial rules as a “tyranny of the majority”, and are calling for rules which determine the fair value of commercial deals, to be scrapped.
This would mean their Abu Dhabi owners could sponsor the club via their other businesses, such as Etihad Airways, at any rate they see fit – essentially destroying any form of financial regulation.
They would be allowed to spend as much as they liked, backed up by the incoming sponsorship money to keep the books balanced, removing any threat of Financial Fair Play or Profit and Sustainability rules.
The hearing is set to begin on 10 June.
Arsenal and Liverpool, as City’s closest competitors on the pitch, as well as any other non-state-owned football club, would likely be left in the dust with no access to similar revenue streams.
Competitiveness in the Premier League – as if it was not one-sided enough already with City winning six of the last seven titles – could essentially cease to exist if the club wins their case.
Arsenal & Liverpool explode as Man City declare war on Premier League
With the very real possibility that any chance at competing for the title, even for such big and historic clubs as Arsenal and Liverpool, could be dismissed – fans have exploded with anger.
City have been labelled “corrupt”, “obscene” and “”, while others claim football is “dying” as a result.
There have also been calls for the Premier League to relegate them and strip them of previous titles.
Just when we thought that the most rancid and corrupt club in world football couldn’t be any more repugnant, Man City think they can sue the Premier League for their repellent rule breaking. The clubs & League need to kick this vile stain out of English football. Parasites! https://t.co/1tDHDYyvue

My god what a terrible club. Been cheating financially ever since they were taken over now they are trying to get themselves out of it by playing the victim card.
They should just be expelled from the PL they are a disgrace to football. https://t.co/EA2c53EbMn

Man City are enemies of football. What they are doing is obscene and shameless. This doesn’t mean the Premier League is perfect, but in this case, they’re acting in the games best interest. I hope the media have the same energy for this as they did for the Super League. https://t.co/FdQGHAXFsG

Strip Man City of their titles, relegate them out of the Premier League with a 5 year ban. And let all the other clubs go back to enjoying different winners that haven’t cheated. #ManCity

There were also calls for Premier League clubs to halt their participation while the case is ongoing.
It would be boss if all other football clubs in The Premier League just got together and said “we won’t compete or play in The Premier League before the matter with Manchester City is settled and done”. I wouldn’t mind footy to stop for that reason. Enough is enough. https://t.co/wJEnY45kps

Meanwhile, many warned that the Premier League, and football in general, is “dying”.
This is it.
This is the bed the Premier League have made.
You invite nation-states into ownership, accept their money, and when they circumvent your laws they simply out-lawyer you into coercion.

So they are taking legal action because they are angry they aren’t allowed to alter their incomings by over inflating their sponsorship money from their own companies anymore???

One Arsenal fan insisted he would rather see arch-rivals Tottenham win the league than a City side intent on bending the rules.
For a long time Manchester City were the easy “neutral” option when it came to titles and trophies.
Fans of Arsenal would rather see City win things over the like of Man United or Liverpool.
Man United fans would rather see their own city rivals win things over Arsenal.
