When people abroad make references to Naira while talking about the cost of living here abroad, you see Nigerians back home lashing them for converting, asking them not to compare or convert because they don’t earn in Naira.
To me, I feel that is the proper way to communicate for a better understanding because not everyone knows the value of these foreign currencies or can convert them especially if the post is meant to pass information about life abroad for people back home.
Oftentimes you read Nigerians back home talk about people abroad, they will never say you earn 2k dollars or pounds even when they say it, they press their calculators immediately to check the value in naira and automatically assume you make 2 to 3million a month therefore you are a millionaire but you living abroad is not allowed to tell them how much the things you bought here cost in Naira for them to see how this millions leaves your account in bulk??😂😂…
Making a decent pot of soup abroad you should be spending at least €50 to €70 convert it to naira that is almost 100k or more and you are to cook at least four different pots of soup in a month.
So if you are spending over #400,000 for just soup alone excluding other meals, groceries, transportation, bills, your monthly rent is included in the 2 to 3million and rent alone sometimes is half of your salary nothing less than a million and more a month.
Soups and rent alone is close to 2million if not more than and you are left with couple of thousands to manage and sought out other bills.
If you lack financial discipline you end up living on deficit even with the so called million you assume people abroad earn.
But a lot of people back home feel when you receive salaries, you dump the millions in your account forgetting you are also spending in foreign currency.
When someone abroad says they earn 2k pounds or thereabout, it’s almost the same thing as someone earning #200,000 back home when compared to the cost of things here and how they spend the money here.
If you don’t manage yourself properly, you will have nothing to save from your 2k pounds at the end of the month after soughting your monthly bills here abroad.
You cannot say someone earning 200k in Nigeria is rich but at least they are comfortable enough to afford their basic needs so that is how it is abroad.
When next you see me convert, allow me to do my conversion in peace because you are the one calculating my salary in naira and assuming I am rich because I live abroad when we all are living the same life and struggling to meet ends meet.
I found this dates in the Dutch Supermarket and it’s sold for €8 plus, that is around #12,500😳
E cost Oooo🙄
