In the life of a human person nothing else is more important than economy. Economy is the ultimate pillar in human life. Without economic audacity no human person or his family will enjoy life to the fullest. Hence, in any country of the world the most pressing issue that counts in the life of each and every citizen is a viable economy of which if there is none; there will be no peace and stability in that particular country. Economic stability is the number one remedy for insecurity. Economic stability and security goes hand in hand in both advanced and economic emerging nations.
Since the return of civilian rules in Nigeria 25 years ago each and every citizen’s expectation is life without pains, anger, misery or lamentation. This is for the fact that the expectations of every Nigerian is that the Western type of Political Democracy will transform the life of each and every citizen positively. Meaning, political, economic and social development for the nation and individuals citizens in Nigeria of which other African nations can see positive examples for them to copy.
Unfortunately, the expectations have been like a mirage. The 25 good years of uninterrupted democracy in Nigeria seems to be failing for the fact that the system created economic aridity, precarity and melting of economy which is leading to limentation, misery and accumulation of sorry state in each and every family home.
The question that bubbles in the mind of experts is who is to be blamed: the system, the players, the internal or external stakeholders? Or on the other hand the practitioners (civil servants) or the citizens or all of them?
*Who is to be blamed in Nigeria: the system, the players or both?
Political Democracy is a game of the people, by the people and for the people. Meaning it’s the people that have the right to elect or vote for their representatives in the corridor of power. This means that the system is like a flavor in the market and every citizen has the right to test the flavor he likes without hindrance. Experts assert that the system has about 57 key elements, rules and principles.
Some are human rights, freedom of speech and freedom of choice. Citizen, elections, right to assembly, press freedom, social media, political parties and freedom of association and so on.
Democratic political system has been in practice around the world since its creation in Athens (Greece) in 508 BC. Also, the system has been in practice in USA for more than 270 years (without military intervention) and in the Britain they succeeded as Parliamentary Democracy without military intervention since 18th Century (but they tried several systems of governance for about 1500 years before) the system is fantastic, excellent and easy to practice and bring rapid development for the nation or society.
But the system is alien to Africa because of the fact that the family welfarism system is known and has been in practice since time immemorial. Unlike in Europe where they succeeded in practice on the nuclear family system and with that they developed their parts of the world.
Many countries around the world have succeeded for the past Centuries or decades of practice and their political, economic and social development is wonderful and beyond imagination. Especially at this modern time of science, technology and innovations.
And had it been that the system is not good for the development of the nations, especially at this time of modernism history could have said it since the human person must be governed at least for the sake of maintaining law and order.
