Wigwe University is preparing to welcome its inaugural batch of students very soon.
Established by the late former Access Holdings Chief Executive Officer, Herbert Wigwe, the university aims to deliver a top-tier education that prepares students for the challenges of tomorrow.
Trag!cally, Wigwe, along with his wife Chizoba and son Chizzy, lost their lives in a helicopter crash in California on February 9, 2024.
Situated in Isiokpo, Rivers State, the university will offer a wide array of programs through four prominent colleges: the College of Management and Social Sciences, the College of Arts, the College of Science and Computing, and the College of Engineering.
However, prospective students should be prepared for substantial fees, making it potentially the most expensive university in the country upon its official opening.
A glance at the institutionโs website reveals that the Arts College has the lowest fees, totaling N9.6 million.
Students enrolled in the College of Engineering, the College of Management and Social Sciences, and the College of Science and Computing will each incur a total fee of โฆ11,998,800. These fees encompass tuition, books, laboratory supplies, personal protective equipment, e-learning resources, health insurance, student activities, and facility maintenance.
Additionally, there are accommodation charges, ranging from โฆ1,000,000 per month for the luxury single bedroom apartment plan to โฆ3,500,000 per session for the classic two-bedroom plan.
The universityโs management defends its decision to charge fees in dollars, stating that domestic students will pay in naira while international students have the option to pay in dollars. This approach is seen as strategic, aligning with the universityโs vision to attract a diverse and international student body.
