In an exclusive interview held at his residence in the Cross River State House of Assembly Quarters, Spring Road, Calabar, Rt. Hon. Elvert Ayambem, the former Speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly, vehemently denied the trending news of his impeachment, describing it as fake, childish and failed mission.
Ayambem confidently asserted that he is the rightful Speaker and assured the public that he is fully capable of running the affairs of the assembly, even with just three (3) members present.
Ayambem revealed that despite the swirling speculations, he has personally spoken with the Governor, His Excellency, Senator Prince Bassey Edet Otu, who has assured him of his full support. The Governor allegedly told Ayambem that he is in charge until 2027, providing him further affirmation of his position as the Speaker.
Addressing the 17 members who signed the purported removal notice, Ayambem stated that they will be called to order when the house reconvenes at a later date. His determined declaration underscores his resolve to maintain his position as Speaker and preserve the stability and functionality of the Cross River State House of Assembly.
The claims made by Rt. Hon. Elvert Ayambem serves to quell the circulating rumors regarding his potential impeachment. With the support of Governor Bassey Edet Otu and his unwavering confidence, Ayambem intends to lead the assembly towards progress and effective governance, ensuring that the state’s legislative affairs continue unhindered. It would be recalled that the Press Secretary to the former Speaker, Mr Matthew Okache had on Wednesday, May 22nd, 2024 release a press statement he personally signed with the heading: “Rt Hon Elvert Ayambem Remains The Speaker Of The 10th Assembly”.
In the press release, which states in parts; to be clear, the Speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly is without doubt Rt. Hon. Elvert Ayambem and that is the current position, adding that, the alleged impeachment and replacement are speculative, and the general public is urged to disregard fake news and dismiss any notion of a crisis”
