As the first anniversary of his administration approaches on the 29th of May 2024, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is scheduled to commission a series of projects to mark the occasion of his first year in office.
The President departed Abuja on Saturday for Lagos, where he would kick-start the commissioning of projects completed under his administration.
This was contained in a statement signed by the Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to the President, Bayo Onanuga, on Saturday.
According to the statement, the President will on Sunday oversee the inauguration of the concrete-paved road leading to the nationโs major ports in Apapa and Tin Can Island.
The project, initiated during the Muhammadu Buhari administration, was financed by the Dangote Group through tax credits under the Tinubu-led administration.
The statement read, โOn the same day, President Tinubu will formally inaugurate, by virtual means, the refurbished Third Mainland Bridge, which has drawn public acclaim for its excellent finishing and aesthetic furnishing. He will also commission, virtually, the rehabilitation of 330 roads and bridges across the country.
โThe highlight of Sundayโs engagements will be the inauguration of the iconic Lagos-Calabar Superhighway, with an estimated cost of about N15 trillion. Work has begun on the legacy project that will connect nine coastal states, with Section Two already awarded to Hitech Construction Limited.
โPresident Tinubu would return to Abuja on Tuesday, where he will inaugurate the Southern Parkway, named after him by the Nyesom Wike-led FCT administration, and then attend the National Assembly Dialogue Series, followed by the unveiling of the National Assembly Complex, also named in his honor, on Wednesday.
โPresident Tinubu will leave the National Assembly to relaunch the commercialisation of Abuja Light Rail, also known as Abuja Metro. He will symbolically join a train ride to the city centre.
โThe Abuja Metro was completed in 2018 by the Buhari Administration. It was put into commercial use up till 2020. But with the onset of COVID-19, the train service was abandoned. Vandals descended on the facility, putting it out of use.
โSubsequently, President Tinubu will relaunch the commercialisation of the Abuja Light Rail, popularly known as Abuja Metro. The rail service, completed in 2018 under the Buhari Administration, ceased operations in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. After extensive refurbishment efforts led by FCT Minister Wike, including investing $15 million and constructing access roads to various stations, the Abuja Metro is set to resume commercial operationsโ, the statement read.
โFollowing a symbolic train ride to the city center, President Tinubu will inaugurate the Wuye Flyover-Link Bridge and the Defence Intelligence Agency Headquarters.
โOn Friday, 31 May, the President will commission the NASENI-Portland Compressed Natural Gas Reverse Engineering Centre at Utako, marking another milestone in his administrationโs commitment to infrastructure development,โ it added.
According to it, โThe project commissioning spree underscored the Presidentโs โdedication to advancing Nigeriaโs infrastructure and signifies significant progress achieved within his first year in office.โ
