Tomatoes should be pruned when the seedlings have 2–3 true leaves and the stem is about 6 inches tall.
This is usually when the plant is about 4–6 weeks old and has started shooting out branches. Regular pruning should be done throughout the growing season to maintain the desired shape and size of the plant and to remove any diseased or damaged growth.
It is important to follow proper pruning techniques to ensure the health and productivity of the plant. Proper pruning techniques are important for maintaining healthy tomato plants. To avoid injuring the plants, prune while they are still tender.
Ensure to use clean, sharp cutting tools to prune. After pruning, spray the area with an alcohol-based disinfectant (Methanol) to prevent contamination from airborne diseases or disease-carrying pests.
