Miami Police recently caused a stir on social media by unveiling what they claim to be the “world’s first” Rolls-Royce cop car. The department shared a video showcasing this luxurious addition to its fleet, garnering a mix of awe and surprise from viewers.
Leased out Rolls Royce cop car
The Rolls Royce cop car has been leased out to MBPD by Braman Motors, a luxury car dealership, in an effort to attract potential young law enforcement recruits. The customised Rolls Royce is reportedly worth $250,000 (approx Rs 2.08 crore) and comes with police lights and sirens. The internet was left divided as soon as MBPD made an official announcement of its recruitment campaign featuring the Rolls Royce patrol car on its social media handles.
Interestingly, Dubai police has a fleet consisting of several Rolls Royce models along with many other super fancy machines such as the Mercedes SLS AMG, Aston Martin One 77, Bugatti Veyron, Nissan GT-R, Lamborghini Aventador, Ferrari FF, Bentley Continental GT and the recently added McLaren Artura.
The Miami Beach Police Department expressed their excitement about the new addition, describing it as a stunning recruitment tool. However, the move was met with criticism on social media, with some users questioning the decision to add such a luxurious vehicle to the police fleet. The department defended their choice, emphasising their commitment to high standards of policing and community service.
It became a topic of discussion as people on social media slammed Miami police for misusing taxpayers money for a fancy recruitment campaign. In response to this, the Miami Police Chief said, “Recruiting police officers in the country today is a difficult thing to do. Using this car to help us to do recruitment is gonna be great.”
Further, in a separate X (formerly Twitter) post MBPD clarified that “this vehicle is part of Braman Motors’ fleet, and they sponsored all costs associated with this project in accordance with the CMB Policy.”
According to a report by Miami Herald, the vehicle is being lent by the dealership and will eventually be returned. Gas and maintenance will be handled by Braman and the police force will only be held liable in the event that the vehicle sustains damage while in its custody.
