Wolverhampton Wanderers player Matt Doherty issued a warning to Manchester City, expressing his determination to beat Pep Guardiola’s side for the second time in the midst of the title race between the Cityzens and Arsenal.
Manchester City will face Wolves at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday, with a victory potentially bringing them closer to the league title in the final three matches of the season. However, despite City’s desire for success, Wolves are aiming to cause an upset by defeating the Sky Blues.
Reflecting on their previous 2-1 victory over City in September 2023, Doherty believes that a similar result could be achievable this Saturday.
“We’ve got a whole week to prepare for City. We’ve beaten them already this season, so it’s a game we want to be competitive in and cause a bit of a shock at the top of the league,” he stated on the club’s website.
Despite sitting in 11th place in the league table and having no chance at titles or European competitions, Doherty emphasized the importance of personal and collective goals.
“It [standards slipping] wouldn’t be allowed. The results haven’t been going for us, but we’re still pushing hard to win the games every time. We’re not on holiday mode or anything like that, there’s plenty for us to play for, personally and as a club.”
We’ll Not Win The League If We Draw Or Lose – Pep Guardiola declares
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola issued a stern warning to his players, emphasizing that a draw or loss in their upcoming matches would hinder their title hopes and prevent them from setting an unbeatable record.
Following a 2-0 victory over Nottingham Forest, Guardiola stressed the necessity of winning all remaining four matches to secure the league title.
“With four games left, it’s like climbing a mountain. They are very tough games. The only thing is still we extend for one more week it’s in our hands,” Pep said.
“If we draw a game, we are not going to win the Premier League. It is what it is. We extend this in a difficult game. Now rest a little bit and prepare the next game.”
Arsenal currently lead the league by a single point over Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City, but the Gunners have only three matches remaining compared to City’s four.
