Things You Probably Don’t Know About The LEKKI COASTAL ROAD!
1. Nigeria’s Federal Executive Council (FEC) approved a N1.06 trillion contract for the construction of the first phase of a coastal road from Lagos to 8 other states.
2. The first phase covers a 47.47-kilometer dual carriageway with five lanes on each side and a train track in the middle.
3. The coastal road project spans nine states, including Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, Delta, Bayelsa, Port Harcourt, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, and has two spurs leading to northern states.
4. The project is to be constructed with concrete and is divided into multiple sections.
5. High Tech Construction African Limited is responsible for procurement and funding.
6. Challenges include realigning the road to avoid litigation and starting the project quickly to protect communities along the corridor.
7. Other road projects awarded between 2006 and 2018 have been reviewed and augmented due to increased construction material prices.
8. Over 1,000 roads are to be reviewed to ensure they remain viable in line with the directive of the President.
