Bayern Leverkusen midfielder, Granit Xhaka, made headlines for his respectful gesture towards Victor Boniface’s grandmother during her visit to Germany in December.
Boniface’s grandmother attended the Bundesliga game between Bayern Leverkusen and Borussia Dortmund at the BayArena. After the match, Boniface introduced his grandmother to some teammates, but it was Xhaka’s respectful bow that garnered attention, especially from Africans.
Embracing African Culture
In a viral video, Xhaka, a Switzerland international, is seen bowing to greet Boniface’s grandmother, a gesture of respect for the elderly. Xhaka shared his affinity for African culture, citing his upbringing surrounded by African friends in Basel, Switzerland.
Xhaka’s Affection for African Culture
“I grew up with a lot of African people. I have one of my best friends whom I grew up with, he is from Ghana, from Togo. In Basel, we have a lot of Africans as well. I love the culture. I love the mentality, I love how kind they are to other people. For me it’s the same, we grew up like this with a lot of respect,” Xhaka expressed.
Appreciation for Boniface and Family
Xhaka praised Boniface as a great guy, highlighting the significance of his family and the football club’s special bond. “Boni is a great guy but as well a great family. This football club is more than special,” he added.
