The Catechist of the All Saints Anglican Church, Onicha-Ebia, Ikem, Isi-Uzo Local Government Area of Enugu State, Chinaza Odumejeogu was, yesterday shot dead by suspected Fulani kidnappers who have recently resumed activities in the area.
Also two persons, John Ede and his daughter were abducted at Umueje, Ikem-Etiti on Monday morning while they were working in their farm.
On Sunday night, bandits abducted Benedicta Abonyi at her home in Ikem-Uno, behind Ikem General Hospital, but due to intense gun battle between a combined team of security operatives and the kidnappers, she was able to escape.
It was learnt that the slain Anglican catechist was attacked while he was in the farm with his son on Monday morning. While his son escaped with a gunshot wound on his leg, the Catchiest died on the spot.
The son of the catchist is receiving treatment in a private hospital together with Benedicta Abonyi who had earlier escaped on Sunday night.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Kanayo Uzuegbu, has issued an immediate quit order to remnants of kidnappers, hoodlums and other criminal elements in the state, saying they either leave town or face the wrath of the law enforcement agencies.
CP Uzuegbu stated that there would be no relenting in the effort to totally flush them out of the state.
He stated this when he led a team of battle tested police operatives to Adani in Uzo-Uwani LGA where two brothers, Mr. Ogbonna Fidelis Anene, aged 33, and Ogbonna John Onyeka, aged 25, were gruesomely murdered on their way going from the farm on Sunday.
While expressing sadness over the ugly incident, the CP assured the people of Adani that a crack squad had been sent after the perpetrators to ring them under the full weight of the law, while also reinforcing security in the border local government area.
